Tonight we had the first Friday night for youth since I've been here. It has been on Saturdays for awhile now (even before I came) because apparently the young leaders who were leading the Friday nights in the past were engaging in improper behavior during or after the events.
The youth haven't really been coming on Saturdays since the new year - so we are trying out Friday nights from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. We had 16 tonight. I thought that was great especially since we had a terrific thunderstorm about the time they would be walking to the church. During the storm, I went outside to let someone in the gate and lightening struck really really really close - I was scared! I crouched down by the fence - a lot of good that would do me, the fence was metal - I hurried to open the gate and get back inside! My heart was racing!
I say "We" because I've got lots of help these days - its wonderful! A Blessing! The three volunteers from IMB did a great job with the games and with helping out setting up and taking down. Russell was also there, and he was a great help as well - especially since he knows where everything is already.
I think the youth enjoyed the evening - I did a short talk on reputation. I was planning to do something else, but then while preparing and praying about tonight, I felt God leading me to talk about reputation. Next week, we'll talk about Jesus' reputation - then the next week we're having a Maundy Thursday service and won't have youth on Good Friday night. I hope many of them will come to the Maundy Thursday because we're doing the service from 'The Book of Uncommon Prayer' - its one I have done with youth groups in Maryland and Virginia and I think it is pretty awesome - very contemplative.
I had a wonderful surprise with I got home tonight after youth - my roomie from Div School, Michelle, sent me a package with goodies inside - it was wonderful! I ate Easy Mac for dinner - I was hungry and thinking all the way home what I would eat and what a great thing to have Easy Mac from home. Thanks Michelle!
Tomorrow will be the first Saturday except for when I've been out of town that I won't have youth - I'm going to enjoy the day! The only thing I have to do is fix the powerpoints for songs and the Order of Worship for Sunday morning - shouldn't take too long. We may be going to play Putt Putt tomorrow night with a bunch of Door of Hope Volunteers - we moved our roommate date to Saturday night, so we'd already planned to go out. Should be fun to be out with a big group. I also invited the IMB volunteers.
Tomorrow is my nephew Harry's 15th birthday - can hardly believe he is that old - he's a great guy and we're all very proud of him. Its 12:32 am now, so I guess I'll head to bed. It will be nice when the time in the US switches to daylight savings time so that we'll only be 6 hours ahead again - makes the phone calls a bit easier. Can't wait to get home for my visit in April - counting the days!

Supporting the Ministry of Troyeville Baptist and the Touch Life Centre
Many of you have asked about how you can support the ministries here in Troyeville. We love your prayer support and we know that God is answering in wonderful ways!
If you'd like to support the ministries financially, here are some of the current needs:
Sponsor a Child at Touth Life Centre: Tuition for our preschool is R300 (~ $40), but most families can only afford to pay about R 50 - the rest is provided by donations. If you sponsor a child, you will enable us to continue this ministry to the community - we'll send pictures of your child and have
him or her write to you. The sponsorship would last for 3 - 4 years depending on how long the child attends our school.
All finanical contributions should go through the Virginia Baptist Mission Board (VBMB) in Richmond, VA. You can get donations to us by sending them to the VBMB office at
VBMB
Glocal Missions and Evangelism Team

Please Indicate that your donation is for The Ministries of Troyeville Baptist Church in Johannesburg, South Africa. If you'd like for your donation to go to a specific need above, please indicate that also.
Let us know your name and address so that we can thank you and send pictures of what your contributions helped support.
If you have any questions about donating, contact Terry Raines or Nichole Bulls at the VBMB office - 804-915-5000 or 800 ALL BGAV
Blessings!!!
