Busyness

The past two weeks have been very full! I'm not sure where it all starts, but anyway, here's what's been going on. I was scheduled to preach at Troyeville on Sunday, February 17th - I knew that the week before was going to be extremely busy, so I asked Cheryl about possibly not preaching that day - she suggested that I try to get help with other things so that I could still prepare my sermon since she had already planned not to preach that day. Well, I tried, but I wasn't able to get out of doing the powerpoint and preparation for the worship service that day because Tony, the one who can also do the powerpoints, was out of town all week - so I couldn't off load that. Cheryl had thought that the IMB volunteers could do Youth on Saturday, but they're no longer coming on Saturdays since we've only had a few youth showing up - so, still had youth to prepare for on Saturday.

This is what the week looked like - Tuesday night Deacon's meeting, Wednesday afternoon/evening staff meeting, prayer, and Bible study; Thursday night, pick up a member of the Virginia team coming to work in Free State; Friday night, meet with rest of team to learn about the work in Free State, Saturday - youth; then have sermon and music for service ready for Sunday morning. Oh yeah, and also have material prepared to do training for youth leaders in the Free State the next weekend.

Whew, makes me tired to think about it! I was a bit stressed. God had laid on my heart to talk with the church about worship - what it is, why we do it, and why it is not just songs on Sunday morning, but should be always in everything we do. I had been thinking about it for weeks, and when I had some free time, I did some research and put thoughts together. I kind of worked that week like I used to do when in college - when really busy, I would use any spare time to get stuff done - snatching time here and there.

For Youth on Saturday, I showed a movie and we talked about what we could learn from it - it wasn't the greatest lesson, but I have to trust that God will use even my weakest efforts to communicate something good.

Saturday night, I finished up the sermon. God is so faithful! I pulled my thoughts and notes together and felt pretty comfortable on Sunday morning sharing about worship. The singing was sweet - especially when we sang 'How Great Thou Art' at the end - felt like everyone was truly worshiping. I didn't help lead that day to save my voice - the Worship team did a great job without me!

Debbie, the early arrival on the Virginia team encouraged me and prayed for me - I am thankful for her. She reminded me that God was in this and that God would guide me through the process and delivery and that God would use my efforts to God's glory.

After church on Sunday, I felt relief - I had made it - once again God had helped me up the mountain and showed me his faithfulness.

Supporting the Ministry of Troyeville Baptist and the Touch Life Centre

Many of you have asked about how you can support the ministries here in Troyeville. We love your prayer support and we know that God is answering in wonderful ways!

If you'd like to support the ministries financially, here are some of the current needs:

Sponsor a Child at Touth Life Centre: Tuition for our preschool is R300 (~ $40), but most families can only afford to pay about R 50 - the rest is provided by donations. If you sponsor a child, you will enable us to continue this ministry to the community - we'll send pictures of your child and have
him or her write to you. The sponsorship would last for 3 - 4 years depending on how long the child attends our school.

All finanical contributions should go through the Virginia Baptist Mission Board (VBMB) in Richmond, VA. You can get donations to us by sending them to the VBMB office at

VBMB
Glocal Missions and Evangelism Team
Attn: Jeannette Hildebrand

Please Indicate that your donation is for The Ministries of Troyeville Baptist Church in Johannesburg, South Africa. If you'd like for your donation to go to a specific need above, please indicate that also.

Let us know your name and address so that we can thank you and send pictures of what your contributions helped support.

If you have any questions about donating, contact Terry Raines or Nichole Bulls at the VBMB office - 804-915-5000 or 800 ALL BGAV

Blessings!!!
